Bursaries
Luther College High School is committed to making our education as accessible as possible. In 2023-24, we awarded approximately $780,000 in bursaries to help offset tuition costs for about 20% of our students.
Amounts awarded depend upon verified, demonstrated need as the amount of bursary funding is limited. Bursary funding is heavily dependent on donor generosity. Every effort is made to distribute this assistance as broadly and equitably as possible. Families are expected to contribute to their student’s educational experience to the best of their ability.
The deadline to apply for bursaries is March 1. Bursary decisions are communicated to families before April 30.
To Apply for Bursaries:
You must be a Saskatchewan or Canadian student.
For new students, your application for admission through Open Apply must be started or in progress. The deadline to submit an application is March 1.
You must complete the assessment provided by Apple Financial Services. Apple Financial will confidentially analyze your application to verify financial need and make recommendations on the amounts of tuition assistance to be awarded to you (if any). Apple Financial’s analysis is provided confidentially to Luther College and is not available to the applicants.
You must pay the Apple Financial Services fee. The fee is $137.50 but Luther College pays a portion of the total fee. Your portion of $68.75 fee is non-refundable and must be paid before an application is assessed.
You must complete the Bursary Application form.
An application is not considered complete until we receive all requested documents. Luther College’s Admissions & Bursaries Committee convenes in March and April to review all of the bursary requests and to determine the amount that may be awarded. Amounts awarded depend on demonstrated financial need, the family’s ability to contribute to their student’s tuition, and the funds available.
Luther College treats all requests for bursary assistance with the highest levels of confidentiality and discretion.
Bursary Renewals
Bursaries are not automatically renewed, but may continue from year to year if there continues to be verifiable need, as well as full payment of outstanding accounts. Bursary renewal applications for students must be completed annually to update any changes to financial circumstances. Applications must be submitted to Apple Financial Services for review by March 1.
Each bursary offered at Luther College High School is described here:
Community Bursary
The Luther College Community Bursary is awarded to deserving students with financial need who demonstrate academic achievement and a keen interest in learning, a positive attitude, proven leadership abilities and a strong desire to succeed. This bursary replaces most other forms of financial aid that Luther College High School offered in prior years. This bursary may cover up to the full tuition to Luther College High School (in consideration of the result of the Apple Financial assessment) and may continue through Grade 12 providing students maintain good academic standing, and continue to meet eligibility requirements, including the requirement to complete an Apple Financial Services assessment annually. The Luther College Community Bursary covers only tuition. It does not include fees related to IB, Film, Phys Ed, EAL, dorms, lunch or bus plans.
Kramer Family Bursary
The Kramer Family Bursary was established by the Kramer family for Indigenous students who show academic promise but due to financial constraints and socio-economic factors would not otherwise attend Luther College High School. This bursary covers annual tuition fees, dorm fees and may provide for other additional costs provided the student maintains good academic standing. It is awarded to Indigenous students who demonstrate academic promise, a positive attitude, a willingness to work hard, and a student desire to succeed as well as financial need.
Nelson Family Bursary
The Nelson Family Bursary is awarded to an academically-minded and well-rounded student who has demonstrated financial need. The bursary was established by Dwight and Christine Nelson in 2021. Their sons, Jeremy and Adam, both attended the high school. Dwight also served on Luther’s Board of Regents.
Ritenburg Family Bursary
The Ritenburg Family Bursary is awarded to students who have demonstrated financial need and show a particular interest in the performing arts (music, dance or drama). It is a renewable bursary of $1,000 per year for up to four years (Grades 9 to 12). This bursary was established by Jim and Jacquie Ritenburg to recognize the positive influence the school had on their family. Jim graduated from Luther in 1977, and daughter Laura graduated in 2004.
