Chapel is a unique and important tradition at Luther College. It’s a daily gathering where the whole school comes together to worship, laugh, and learn. Chapel helps build our strong community of support and respect, with content that varies from devotions and guest speakers to fun activities and music.

Grade 9 students take 6 classes per semester, plus a lunch period. With two semesters in a school year, that’s a total of 12 classes. While grade 9 students cannot take a spare, they may choose a Study Hall period each semester.

As an international school, we have a highly diverse student body, which helps our students develop respect and empathy for others. We have programs like chapel, international cafes, and a harassment prevention policy to create a supportive and respectful environment. Our Grade 9 transitions class also teaches appropriate social media use, and our counselors are available to help students with any issues they may be facing.

Homework varies depending on the class, but our teachers ensure that students know how much each assignment contributes to their grade. This helps students manage their time effectively. Teachers also coordinate their course loads to avoid overwhelming students with high-value assignments at the same time.

The IB program is academically rigorous, encouraging students to develop both academically and personally. The IB diploma means taking all IB classes in grades 11 and 12, completing a Theory of Knowledge course, writing an extended essay, and participating in the CAS (Creativity, Action, and Service) program. Most Luther students opt for the IB certificate, taking 1 to 4 IB classes based on their university goals or interests. Our academic vice-principal helps students make these decisions during course registration.

“Luther marks” may differ from an average high school, but we maintain a fair and universal standard of evaluation. Our goal is to prepare students for university, ensuring they’re confident, independent, and responsible. Over 96% of our graduates go on to the university of their choice, and professors often recognize Luther students for their strong preparation, reading, writing, and communication skills.

Luther has a wide variety of extracurricular activities. Our students have received national recognition in improv and debate, and our musical groups, like the Advanced Vocal Ensemble (AVE), are well-known. In athletics, we have strong soccer and hockey teams, and we’re proud to host the longest-running student basketball tournament in Canada, L.I.T.
