Position Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Academic Advisor to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive academic guidance and support to students, helping them navigate their educational journey and achieve their academic and career goals. This role involves working closely with students, parents, and school staff to create personalized academic plans and address any academic or personal challenges.

The salary for this position ranges from $60,000 to $75,000 CAD per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to competitive compensation, the role includes a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic Counseling: Provide one-on-one and group counseling to students regarding course selection, academic planning, and career aspirations.
  • Individualized Plans: Develop and implement individualized academic plans for students, considering their strengths, interests, and career goals.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track and assess student progress, ensuring they are meeting academic requirements and making necessary adjustments to their plans.
  • Support Services: Identify students who may need additional support and connect them with appropriate resources, including tutoring, counseling, and special education services.
  • Parental Communication: Engage with parents and guardians to discuss students’ academic performance and address any concerns or questions.
  • Program Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide academic programs and initiatives.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including academic progress, interventions, and personal development.
  • Workshops and Seminars: Organize and conduct workshops or seminars on academic and career planning, study skills, and other relevant topics.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field. A Master’s degree or additional certification in academic advising or counseling is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in academic advising, counseling, or a related role, preferably in a high school setting.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of secondary education systems, curriculum requirements, and career planning resources.
  • Organization: Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities and prioritize effectively.
  • Cultural Competence: Ability to work with a diverse student population and be sensitive to various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Technology: Proficiency in using educational software and tools for tracking student progress and managing records.
